Where you find it
Thought to have originated in South America they are now all over the world across temperate and tropical regions. Folkloric use has been documented in Australia, America, Africa, Asia, Oceania. It is naturalised in Australia and is common in the eastern and northern parts of Australia where it is widespread throughout Queensland, eastern New South Wales, the Northern Territory and the northern parts of Western Australia. It is less common in the ACT, Victoria and South Australia, and in south-western Australia. It is also naturalised on Lord Howe Island, Norfolk Island and Christmas Island. it is also regarded as an environmental weed in New South Wales, Queensland, Western Australia and the ACT
Cobbler's pegs are commonly found in gardens, parks, crops, pastures, roadsides, disturbed sites and waste areas, and also in waterways, rainforest margins, open woodlands and coastal sites (particularly in warmer regions).
